Dr. Andrew Straw

Upper School History Instructor
Dr. Andrew Straw hails from Dallas and has taught at St. Michael's Prep since 2018. He earned a Ph.D in history from the University of Texas in 2017, holds a MA from Stanford in Russian Area Studies, and a BA from UT Austin in History. He began his career teaching English as a foreign language in Moscow, Russia from 2006 to 2009. He has also taught courses on Russian and Soviet history at the University of Texas and Huston-Tillotson University, and worked with UT OnRamps as an instructor. Currently, he teaches AP World History and U.S. History. He is also still an active historian and continues research and publishing as an independent scholar with a focus on the Soviet Union and Crimea.

In his free time he enjoys spending time with family, traveling, jogging, cooking, and art. One of his favorite courses to teach is a Winter Term course on Texas BBQ and tacos.
