Alexa Mendes
6th Grade Theology Teacher
Alexa Mendes brings an interdisciplinary professional and academic background to the St. Michael’s Prep community. After growing up in Southern California, Alexa graduated summa cum laude from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Fellows (honors business administration) and Management Information Systems, a minor in Spanish, certificates in Business Analytics and Global Engagement, and the distinction of completing the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core liberal arts honors program. Before coming to St. Michael’s, Alexa implemented human resources software for global companies as a technology consultant at Oracle, where she enjoyed teaching technical functionality to clients, mentoring junior analysts, and stimulating her curiosity by learning something new each day. Additionally, as a speaker and author on social and emotional topics like social media and student leadership, Alexa loves inspiring students to strive for excellence by leading through joyful example.
Most importantly, Alexa is passionate about embodying her Catholic faith as she lives out St. Therese of Lisieux’s adage that her “vocation is love.” She has been formed by nine years of serving second graders through young adults in various ministry capacities (including teaching religious education, coordinating large-scale retreats, delivering formation talks, lectoring, and leading weekly Bible studies that emphasize the development of the whole person).
When she’s not brainstorming innovative ways of inviting students to have a meaningful encounter with Christ, you can usually find Alexa serving the young adult community at Saint Mary Cathedral (her home parish), learning a new language, enjoying live music, or watching sports with her wonderful fiancé.
