St. Michael’s Prep Board Explores the Power of Human Interaction
St. Michael’s Prep Board of Trustees welcomes Austin-based keynote speaker Thom Singer, CSP for a presentation on Human Interaction, or H.I., and its importance in an increasingly AI-driven world.
Strong schools are built on strong relationships. With that idea at the center, the St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School Board of Trustees recently welcomed Austin-based keynote speaker Thom Singer, CSP for a presentation on Human Interaction, or H.I., and its importance in an increasingly AI-driven world.
Singer is the CEO of the Austin Technology Council, an author, and a speaker whose work focuses on human connection, trust, collaboration, and community. Through his H.I. Blueprint, he encourages leaders and organizations to be intentional about building meaningful relationships, especially as technology continues to change how people communicate and work.
His presentation reminded trustees that while artificial intelligence offers powerful new tools, it cannot replace the value of authentic human connection. For a school community, that message carries particular meaning. Education is deeply human work, shaped by the relationships among students, educators, families, and school leaders.
The conversation invited trustees to consider how St. Michael’s Prep can thoughtfully engage with new technology while continuing to place people at the center. Preparing students for the future includes helping them use new tools responsibly, but it also requires developing skills technology cannot replicate: listening carefully, communicating clearly, building trust, collaborating with others, and ensuring that people feel known and valued.
At SMP, these qualities reflect our commitment to forming students in faith, character, confidence, and purpose. We are grateful to Singer for sharing his perspective and encouraging our school’s leaders to consider how human interaction can remain central as technology and education continue to evolve.
