Kyra Abbe

Fifth Grade Instructor

Kyra Abbe is a lifelong language enthusiast and Austin native who brings over a decade of teaching experience to the middle school Latin classroom at St. Michael’s Prep. She studied Latin for six years, earning both state and national Latin championships, and was inspired by her father—also a Latin teacher—to pursue classical education.

A graduate of St. Edward’s University, Ms. Abbe began her career in early childhood education and later taught English immersion at the elementary level. Her broad teaching background informs her dynamic, student-centered approach to Latin, which she strives to make engaging, accessible, and fun.

Now in her tenth year of teaching, Ms. Abbe is passionate about helping students connect ancient language to the modern world. Whether decoding Roman graffiti, chanting verb forms, or exploring mythology, she brings Latin to life with creativity and energy.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys exploring Austin’s coffee shops, spending time with her pets, and planning her next travel adventure—especially to places with ancient ruins.
